Over the course of more than forty years, Vancouver’s Pride Parade has seen considerable and exciting evolution. This year’s Pride Pride takes place July 31, with a diverse line-up of Pride Week events that run from July 21 to August 1.
Vancouver’s Pride Parade initially started as a protest and has since expanded to become an inclusive celebration of the 2SLGBTQAI+ communities. Michelle Fortin, Chair of the Board of Directors of the Vancouver Pride Community (VPS), says the first Pride Parade was very much about being clear and proud. “It was about taking up territory. It was about noticing and leaning into the fact that back in gay sex had been decriminalized. It was about taking over the streets and being present—saying to the straight majority that we weren’t going anywhere,” she says.

Re: Vancouver Pride Parade
Greetings:
We are excited to invite you to join Unifor LGBTQ members and allies at this years Vancouver Pride Parade Sunday, July 31st.
As with previous years, Unifor will have a truck and trailer with a float on it. The parade route will be 3 km’s long so those marchers not able to step this distance can sit on the trailer while others can march alongside. For safety reasons the decision to ride on the trailer will need to be made at the begin of the parade as you will not be able to jump on and off once the parade starts moving.
Unifor’s staging location will be ES-6, section E is on Alberni Road just west of Burrard Road. Marchers should arrive at the staging area by noon (no earlier than a.m. and no later than p.m.) For reference see the attached map of the staging area.
