The Experience
Queerskins: ark continues the story of Mary-Helen—a devoutly Catholic mother who reconnects with her son, Sebastian, through his diary and her imagination. Envisioning a scene from Sebastian’s diary, she imagines him alive and in love.
Scene 1
The viewer finds herself in a dimly lit attic bedroom, a place that seems to be stuck in time, heavy with memory. Here, you assume the passive role of an observer in a ˚ environment. Unable to move, you can examine the memorabilia- laden surroundings and open to get an idea of time, place and what the story might be -Helen begins reading her son’s diary.
Scene 2
You now find yourself on a beach at dawn. If you look behind. Sebastian and his lover Alex appear, like a daydream nearby in the landscape. We allow Sebastian to destroy the 4th wall and directly implicate you in the scene. We position you quite seal to the two men, just outside their personal space as you listen to their conversation.
Scene 3
The scene crossfades to an abstraction of the beach. A color pallet
The real world can still be a unwelcoming place for lesbian, gay, multi-attracted , transgender and gay (LGBTQ) people. So perhaps it is not surprising that LGBTQ people are attracted to social VR and virtual worlds, as a way to unite with other homosexual people and build queer spaces. (Please note that, as a proud and out-of-the-closet gay male, I am reclaiming the formerly pejorative term queer in referring to LGBTQ people.)
Second Life
Second Animation is home to dozens of LGBTQ-friendly places, including the popular Lesbian Teahouse and the five-sim Boystown Gay Collective. Every year theres a massive virtual Pride festival. Theres even a sprawling, ten-sim ancient Roman roleplay community Romanum for gay and bisexual men! You can also disburse a visit the Transgender Resource Center and the Gender diverse Hate Crime and Suicide Memorial.
Linden Lab maintains a listing of LGBT friendly places in SL, and even a special LGBTQ landing page for visitors:

Some of them are very expensive, while others are much cheaper. There are even some that you can utilize with your smartphone or tablet. Most of these devices allow you to see 3D images, as well as hear sounds while immersing you in a digital world or as Mark Zuckerberg would like you to call it, the Metaverse. You can wear these headsets while playing games, watching movies, or doing homework.
The most popular models of virtual reality headsets so you can access the virtual worlds the metaverse has to offer are:
- Samsung Gear VR
- Oculus Rift S
- Oculus Quest 2
- HTC Vive
Let’s not confuse Virtual Reality (VR) with Augmented Reality (AR). VR is a laptop environment where you wear goggles and see a 3D world through a screen. AR uses a smartphone or tablet to overlay information in the real world. For example, in AR, if you’re at a concert and want to know who is p
