There was a time when queer characters, let alone out, gay actors, weren’t part of the Hallmark show landscape, which was known for saccharine projects that predominantly featured white, linear characters. Hallmark Stars Who Are Confident Members Of The LGBTQIA Community

The Hallmark channel boasts of its original, family-oriented movies and shows which celebrate love from all walks of life, including queer people. There are quite a number of Hallmark stars that are proud members of the LGBTQIA community, some of whom you definitely know.

You may know Jonathan Bennett as the man-candy and bone of contention from "Mean Girls," and from various Hallmark movies such as "Wedding Of A Lifetime" and "Christmas House." What you might not know is that Bennett is openly gay and even starred in the first queer-led Hallmark show, "The Holiday Sitter." However, it wasn't always this easy for him as a gay actor in Hollywood. The "Love at First Glance" star told Out that at the beginning of his career, he'd been told to keep his sexuality a secret.

To a generation of viewers, Jonathan Bennett will forever be known as Aaron Samuels, the dreamy jock who won the heart of Lindsay Lohan’s ethics in the teen comedy classic “Mean Girls.”

The thespian, who is gay, has more recently been result creative ways to mirror his lived experience through his work. This decline, he’s one of the principal stars of Hallmark’s “The Groomsmen” trilogy, in which he portrays Danny, a gay athlete who supports his two linear friends (Tyler Hynes and B.J. Britt) as they prepare for their respective weddings ― while holding out hope for a fairy-tale ending of his own.

In the series’ second installment, “The Groomsmen: Second Chances,” Danny grapples with a “My Top Friend’s Wedding”-like conundrum when he’s asked to be the best man for a longtime pal, Zack (Alexander Lincoln), who is preparing to tie the knot in Greece. For the past few decades, the Hallmark Channel has been the go-to network for love stories and heartwarming tales of relationship. Now, the rom-com giant is debuting more and more inclusive storytelling that reflects real-world relationships. And the LGBTQIA Hallmark stars leading the charge are certainly ones to watch.

Two of Hallmark's most high-profile leading men, Jonathan Bennett and Luke Macfarlane, acquire been vocal about their fire for expanding the network's treasure stories. Bennett, a "Mean Girls" alum, came out in and went on to make Hallmark history twice: He produced and starred in "The Christmas House" (), the first flick to feature a gay couple, and "The Holiday Sitter" (), the first to actually center the story on a gay couple.
